The National Security Department (NSD) held the award presentation ceremony for the NStudio Marketing Proposal Competition at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre on June 23. The event was supported by the Security Bureau, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers (HKFEW), and Sing Tao News Corporation. The Secretary for Security Mr Tang Ping-keung and the then Acting Commissioner Kan Kai-yan officiated at the ceremony.
Mr Tang Ping-keung pointed out in his speech that national security (NS) is like sunshine and air, closely intertwined with our daily lives, and that everyone is a stakeholder, beneficiary, guardian and responsible bearer of NS. He commended the participants for not only understanding this concept, but also adopting down-to-earth and engaging approaches to introduce “A Holistic Approach to National Security” to the community. He highlighted that the competition arranged various workshops for the participants, enabling them to master the essential skills for NS education. He also announced that the Security Bureau would launch a new TV programme “NS Files Decoded”.
The then Acting Commissioner stated that the award presentation ceremony bore witness to the “sowing of seeds”, using three forms of concerted effort to symbolise three different seeds. First, participating together sows the seed of “awareness” among young people, embedding NS into the soil of daily life. Second, guiding together sees the judges, NS Education District Tutors, and workshop mentors sow the seed of “inspiration”, allowing NS education to take root through workshops and professional sharing. Third, moving forward together means everyone sows the seed of “action” simultaneously, as the winning proposals will be materialised with the assistance of the NSD, bringing them into schools and communities to bear fruit.
He expressed gratitude to the HKFEW, Police Community Relations Offices of various districts, NS Education District Tutors, and community leaders for working hand in hand, and emphasised that the Force will continue to effectively perform its roles as both an enforcer and a promoter. Finally, he left a message for the youth, wishing for them to carry forward the seeds they have personally sown, inspire more people around them, and work together to safeguard NS.
The competition, themed around the 20 major fields under “A Holistic Approach to National Security”, aimed to encourage participants to closely connect NS with daily life by designing creative and practical marketing proposals. Divided into four categories, namely Primary School, Junior Secondary School, Senior Secondary School, and Youth Uniformed Groups, the event attracted the participation of over 320 teachers and students from a total of 154 teams.
