Anti-drug publicity events in Humen, Dongguan and Shenzhen
On June 3, Director of Crime and Security Chan Tung led a delegation of the Narcotics Bureau (NB) to Humen, Dongguan to attend the Commemorative Event for the 187th Anniversary of Opium Destruction in Humen and Launch Ceremony of the 2026 National Anti-Drug Publicity Month. The delegates then travelled to Shenzhen to attend the launch ceremony of an anti-drug initiative targeting young people in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The activities for the day included a dual-themed exhibition at the Sea Battle Museum, the launch ceremony of an
AI-powered smart anti-drug education model and a collective oath by youth, all delivering the message of “preventing youth drug abuse and building a drug-free, healthy society together”.
In addition, on June 26, which is the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day), officers of the NB, together with graduates of the Leadership Institute on Narcotics (L.I.O.N.), were invited to participate in the “Light of Life” anti-drug publicity event in Shenzhen. Frontline drug-enforcement officers, anti-drug social workers, youth volunteers and rehabilitated drug abusers presented real-life cases to showcase the effectiveness of anti-drug efforts.
Anti-Drug Education Research Release and Award Ceremony
On July 7, Commissioner Chow Yat-ming attended as an officiating guest at the “Anti-Drug Education Research Release and Award Ceremony”. The event was jointly organised by Yan Oi Tong and the Yan Oi Tong Choi Wong Ling Ling Education Fund, with research evaluation conducted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
A professional research on the Interactive Anti-Drug Theatre showed that students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes towards drug prevention have been improved, providing compelling empirical evidence to support anti-drug education in local schools. During the ceremony, 40 Campus Anti-Drug Little Leaders took a solemn oath, pledging to bring anti-drug messages to their families and communities.
In his speech, the Commissioner emphasised that in the face of the continued threat of drugs such as etomidate to young people, the Force will continue to take stringent enforcement actions. He also expressed gratitude to Yan Oi Tong for their generous sponsorship, enabling the delivery of more than
60 Interactive Anti-Drug Theatre performances in total, further spreading the anti-drug messages to more schools.
“Frame a Drug-free Future: Let’s Action” Anti-Drug Short Video Competition
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the L.I.O.N., the NB has launched the “Frame a Drug-free Future: Let’s Action”
Anti-Drug Short Video Competition. The competition aims to encourage secondary school and tertiary institution students to convey anti-drug messages using a flexible and vivid approach. Entries may revolve around themes such as resisting temptation, revealing the disguises of drugs, or illustrating the harms of drug abuse. Participants may produce their work through live-action filming, AI generation, or a combination of both.
Winning teams will each be presented with an attractive prize money, a trophy and a certificate. Winning entries will be publicly screened at the large-scale carnival event “LOL Party” on November 7.
