Marine Outer Waters District organised the “Sea Safety Seminar cum No Drugs Charter Signing Ceremony” on June 24, in collaboration with industry representatives and various government departments, to jointly promote maritime safety and combat drug-related crimes at sea.
The “No Drugs Charter”, initially launched by Marine East Division in 2012, has reached a new milestone this year. Industry representatives from Marine East, West, and North Divisions were invited to sign the charter together, establishing a more extensive and regular cooperation mechanism. Through intelligence exchange, the initiative aims to jointly curb maritime drug activities and strengthen overall crime prevention and eradication capabilities. During the event, a joint maritime rescue exercise was conducted by the Marine Small Unmanned Aircraft Team, the Marine Jet Ski Team and the Police Dog Unit, together with the Government Flying Service and the Hong Kong China Life Saving Society, demonstrating contingency operations to swiftly rescue persons in distress.
The event also featured several themed lectures. Representatives from the Immigration Department and the Marine Department introduced the cross-boundary measures for yachts and the implementation effectiveness of the Marine Safety (Alcohol and Drugs) Ordinance. In addition, officers from the Narcotics Bureau explained the latest drug trends and the ban on alternative smoking products, while members from the Public Relations Wing introduced the “Good Citizen Award” scheme to encourage the industry and the general public to actively participate in crime prevention and rescue work.
After the lectures, a lady who fell into the sea on May 1 and was rescued by officers from Marine North Division travelled from Guangzhou expressly to attend the event and presented a tapestry banner to the officers concerned.
