On August 8, ten mentees and graduates of the Leadership Institute on Narcotics (L.I.O.N.) visited TVB Limited (TVB) to participate in an anti-drug publicity and media experience activity. Mentees applied the anti-drug knowledge they had acquired to disseminate drug prevention messages to people from different sectors, demonstrating the confidence and determination of young anti-drug leaders.
On the day of the activity, mentees transformed into “anti-drug mentors”, providing detailed explanations about the dangers of common drugs and relevant legislations to members of TVB’s Volunteer Team and the Junior Police Call (JPC). They also displayed replicas of drugs and paraphernalia, and answered participants’ questions in an easy-to-understand manner, thereby promoting the
anti-drug culture to media outlets and peer networks. Additionally, TVB arranged for mentees to the news division, the television studio and the audio studio to experience the production process of news programmes and voice-over work.
People in recovery from drug dependence from the Christian New Being Fellowship were also invited to share their past experiences, and talk about the price they paid due to drug addiction, and their journey of drug rehabilitation. Afterwards, all participants sang together in chorus, spreading positivity to everyone present.
This activity not only showcased mentees’ ability to apply their knowledge, but also highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in anti-drug publicity. L.I.O.N. has always been committed to uniting efforts across society to enhance youths’ understanding of drugs, while cultivating their leadership skills and sense of social responsibility. L.I.O.N. will continue to work closely with various sectors of society to encourage young leaders to step out of campuses and into communities, conveying the positive message of “Drugs? Never, ever!”
