NS Knowledge Café

At the invitation of the Police College (College), the National Security Department (NSD) joined the Knowledge Management (KM) Championship Scheme in July and organised the first National Security (NS) Knowledge Café at the Police Headquarters on August 5. The talk was also broadcast online via video conferencing to the College, the Police Sports and Recreation Club, the New Territories South and the New Territories North Regional Headquarters. Over 600 officers participated.

In his opening address, Assistant Commissioner (NS) (2) and KM Champion (NS) Kwok Ka-chuen mentioned that the application of technology has become a part of people’s lives and work. However, amid the complex and volatile geopolitics, technological domains involving data, network and artificial intelligence (AI) have been incorporated into the major fields under A Holistic Approach to National Security. He called on officers to heighten their vigilance in safeguarding national security while making good use of information technology (IT).

Themed “How the Application of Information Technology Impacts National Security”, the talk was delivered by a Senior Superintendent of the NSD. It covered seven key topics, namely A Holistic Approach to National Security, the three pillars of information security, trends in cybersecurity threats, human-centric attacks methods, information security considerations in AI applications, IT procurement and national security, as well as relevant policies and guidelines. The NSD will continue to hold Knowledge Café sessions on different themes, and upload the relevant information to P-TV and KM webpages to strengthen the national security awareness and response capabilities of the Force.

NStudio Marketing Proposal Competition awardees visit design studio

The NSD arranged the awardees of the NStudio Marketing Proposal Competition to visit the design studio of local designer Mr Kenny Wong, the creator of the art toy character Molly, on August 6.

Mr Kenny Wong shared his creative experience with the awardees, explained the relationship between pop culture and cultural security, and pointed out that protecting intellectual property is vital to safeguarding economic security and building a sound environment for innovation and technology. At the same time, he shared how to build cultural confidence through artistic creation, and transform creativity into a power that safeguards the country. The awardees also brought prototype versions of their award-winning works and had exchanges with Mr Kenny Wong on ways to refine their designs.

The activity inspired the product design mindset of the awardees through exchanges with a renowned local designer, and enabled them to understand the meanings of cultural security and economic security under A Holistic Approach to National Security.
