Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) has further enhanced Project Gemstone this year by partnering with nine schools to identify and nurture promising non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) youth.
With the support of the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation, the Project arranged for 27 NEC youngsters to visit Xi'an in August for the first time to explore where the Silk Road starts. Participants toured historical sites, watched Silk Road-themed performances and experienced traditional Hanfu culture. They were also arranged to visit the local Public Security Bureau, gaining multi-faceted insights into national development and governance.
In addition, YTDIST hosted the Liaison Meeting with NEC Leaders cum Gemstone Students Showcase & Award Ceremony on August 26. During the event, NEC youth shared their experiences and learning outcomes from the Xi'an exchange. District Commander of YTDIST Ngai Chi-shung and consular representatives presented certificates of appreciation to the participating schools.
Established in 2013, Project Gemstone has been dedicated to supporting NEC youth in integrating into the community, enhancing their Chinese language proficiency, and broadening their development opportunities. To date, 66 participants have joined various disciplinary services.
