Project Legacy (the Project) partnered with the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (HKAPF) to hold the inaugural “Legacy X Flag Guardians National Day Flag Raising Training Camp” at the HKAPF Headquarters on September 12. The event provided professional flag-raising and Chinese-style foot drill training for 52 students and 10 principals and teachers from 13 secondary schools, aiming to enhance students’ discipline, team spirit, and patriotism.
The Auxiliary Police Force arranged members of its Guard of Honour to provide rigorous training in flag-raising and Chinese-style foot drill for the participating teachers and students. The Guard of Honour members, many of whom are teachers by profession, brought their teaching passion onto the parade ground and guided the participants with patience. Under the meticulous guidance of the Auxiliary members, participants not only acquired precise skills in foot drill formations and flag-raising movements, but also gained a deeper understanding of the discipline and commitment required of a flag bearer.
Speaking at the event, the Commandant of the HKAPF Dr Leung Sai-kwong and Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) and Head Ambassador of the Project Tsui Sheung-yee commended the participants for their hard work, and encouraged them to bring back to schools the skills and attitudes they learned, as well as the underlying patriotic spirit and commitment, thereby passing on the legacy.
Lui Cheuk-ying, a representative from Diocesan Girls’ School, expressed gratitude for the organisers’ arrangements and the meticulous guidance from the Auxiliary members. She highlighted that the training camp allowed participants to rediscover the profound meaning of guarding the National Flag, which would help pass on this honour and foster a patriotic culture on campuses.
The participating teachers and students found the training highly rewarding and hoped that the Project would continue to organise similar workshops to benefit more schools.
