The Identification Bureau (IB) commissioned the brand-new Scene of Crime Investigation (CSI) Mobile Support Unit in September. Working in tandem with the existing CSI Mobile Laboratory, the Mobile Support Unit comprehensively enhances the efficiency of on-scene command and coordination, exhibit management, and forensic testing at major crime scenes.

The Mobile Support Unit features a small meeting room and multimedia display system that allow connection with an unmanned aircraft system, and reception of real-time footage of the scene and surrounding environment, helping forensic personnel better grasp the field situation and optimise investigation planning, briefings, and task coordination. The vehicle is also equipped with a large storage compartment which allows for rapid deployment of large testing equipment and streamlines the processing of on-site exhibit testing.

As both specialised vehicles are put into service one after the other, the IB will support frontline units in collecting evidence at the scene and preserving fingerprint evidence more effectively.
