The HKSAR Police
Long Service Medal and Clasps

A NEW Honours and Awards System has been introduced after the reunification of Hong Kong with China to give recognition to meritorious and dedicated service rendered by individuals to Hong Kong.

Three main types of Honours and Awards are: General Awards; Bravery Awards; and Disciplined Services/ICAC Awards

Disciplined Services and ICAC Awards include three types of Awards: Distinguished Service Medals; Meritorious Service Medals; and Long Service Medals

Presentation ceremonies for Distinguished Service Medals and Meritorious Service Medals recipients were held in October 1998.

Presentation ceremonies for the Police Long Service Medals (PLSM) will be held as soon as the Medals and Clasps are available.

The Government Supplies Department awarded the tender for the production of these and other disciplined services medals last September.

The first batch of PLSMs and Clasps are expected to be available this month (December). Names of recipients will be engraved on these medals in both Chinese and English before the medals are provided to major formations for presentation.

All newly qualified and existing awardees of Colonial Police Long Service Medals (CPLSM) who have completed 18, 25, 30 and 33 years of satisfactory service are eligible for PLSMs, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Clasps respectively.

Auxiliary police officers who have completed 15, 25 and 35 years of exemplary and satisfactory service are similarly eligible for the award of Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Long Service Medals, 1st and 2nd Clasps respectively.

Medal/Clasp presentations for newly eligible recipients will continue to be conducted by their major formation commanders as before. Eligible officers with existing medals, i.e. CPLSM, will be presented with new PLSMs/Clasps by their respective formation commanders.

New Medals/Clasps will be distributed in four batches on major formation basis.

There are large numbers of officers to be presented with awards and details of administrative arrangements in relation to the distribution of these medals and clasps to major formation commanders will be announced soon.

Presentation ceremonies for eligible officers of the rank of ACP and above will be separately arranged by Personnel Wing.

Sample medals have been recently shown to respective staff associations and representatives of major formation commanders.

The Conditions of Service and Support Group of Personnel Wing are responsible for the collation and co-ordination of the above arrangements.
