Police participate in anniversary celebrations

Scores of guests and onlookers turned out on July 1 to savour the Flag Raising Ceremony celebrating the second anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Vice-President Hu Jintao was joined by Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa to officiate the ceremony held outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

During the ceremony, police officers raised the National and HKSAR flags and took part in the Inter-disciplinary Sea and Air Formation Salute as well as the Guard of Honour.

The two officiating guests also unveiled the new Monument in Commemoration of the Return of Hong Kong to China outside the centre. The Hong Kong Police Band contributed to several highlights of the two ceremonies with moving performances including the National Anthem and Homecoming.

Police officers from various formations were deployed at the scene to maintain order and provide protection to the dignitaries.
