Multiple medals bowl over SPC

Senior Police Constable Lok Sui-ching won the highest number of medals at the Games among the Force competitors.

SPC Lok blitzed the tenpin bowling event, snaring three golds, including the Men's Doubles (A Division), and two bronze medals, the Men's Singles (A Division) and the overall master.

His team, made up of three colleagues from the Police Tenpin Bowling Club, won a total of seven gold, a silver and five bronze medals.

The four bowlers, Inspector Ngan Wai-hung, Detective Police Constable Tam Wai-kit, Police Constable Chan Chi-keung and SPC Lok, nabbed a gold each in the team event, up against top international contenders.

One of the founding members of the club and the most experienced in the team, SPC Lok has bowled for over 29 years. This was the fourth time he represented the Force at the Games, bringing his total tally of Police and Fire medals to 16.

However, he said the competition this time was the toughest ever.

"Apart from some strong Australians, Americans and Canadians who we'd competed against before, I was a bit surprised by the strength of the Taiwanese bowlers who took part in the Games for the first time," SPC Lok said.

However the quintet made adequate preparations to hone their talents before taking to the bowling alley for the big event.

"The bowling events lasted from July 19 to 21, but we arrived early and spent two days familiarising ourselves with the alley and the conditions,"SPC Lok said.

The team, however, didn't just focus on winning games, winning over friends among their Police and Fire competitors was also important.
