'Windies' win basketball blow-out

A basketball course for officers' children came to an exciting close on August 19 when the kids battled it out on the court.

The 50 youngsters completing the five-week summer training were split into four teams, 'Wind', 'Big Four Happiness', 'Speed', and 'Blue Whale', to compete for the Chairman's Trophy Annual Basketball Tournament.

'Wind' and 'Big Four Happiness' then squared off in a fierce final which saw the teams deadlocked at 20-all at the end of the first half.

The 'Windies' then blew some nice moves in the second half to win the match 50-38 and take the championship and the Chairman's Trophy.

'Big Four' players Tong Ka-lun and Chan Chun-fung won the Best Assist Player and Best Rebound Player awards respectively. 'Wind' player Cheng Tat-bun won the Best Shooter and Most Valued Player titles, while his team's coaches, Law Fuk-fu and Chan Wing-kwong, shared the Best Coach award.

All players were given certificates and souvenirs while their enthusiastic parents cheered on from the sidelines.

The Police Basketball Club said it hoped to recruit players to form a Police Children's Basketball Team to compete in open tournaments, pending approval from the Police Sports Council.
