HKP attend Seoul Interpol assembly


CP Hui, D C&S Lau, SP Chiu and SSP Ma at the Interpol assembly in Seoul, South Korea

Commissioner of Police Eddie Hui Ki-on led a group of Hong Kong officers to Seoul recently for the 68th General Assembly Session of the International Criminal Police Organisation (ICPO - Interpol), held November 8 to 12.

Hundreds of delegates from over 140 countries attended. Director of Crime and Security Louis Lau Chun-sing, Liaison Bureau Senior Superintendent Ma Wai-luk, and LB Superintendent Interpol Winnie Chiu joined Mr Hui to attend the Assembly as part of the Mainland's delegation.

Interpol Hong Kong, China is a Sub-Bureau of the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) China.

The General Assembly is held annually in different countries and this year's five-day programme saw deliberation on the Strategic Development Plan.

This along with reports from various working parties, information systems for network communication and crime investigation, Interpol Regional activities, police co-operation agreement as well as international police co-operation in the combat against terrorism, trafficking in people and stolen art, corruption, drug trafficking and organised crime. General functioning and financial matters of Interpol were also discussed. Hong Kong officers liaised with the NCB of 178 Interpol member countries on a daily basis on criminal investigations. Officers also participated in various Interpol seminars, meetings and working parties under the auspices of Interpol Hong Kong, China.

The next Interpol General Assembly is scheduled for October next year in Greece.

Superintendent Stephen Lo Wai-chung has just been seconded to the Interpol General Secretariat in Lyons, France to replace Superintendent Ken Li Kin-fai who completed his two-year secondment in late October.
