More young people with better academic qualifications are being recruited ensuring quality services to keep Hong Kong one of the world's safest societies.

Of the 1,407 applications received for Inspector posts from last April to February 15, almost 70 per cent were from degree holders, up from about 52 per cent in 1998/99. While 4.8 per cent of Police Constable applicants in 1998/99 had matriculation-level education, the figure since April has jumped to 14.4 per cent. All Recruit PIs and 31.1 per cent of Recruit PCs in this batch were degree holders, up from 95.7 per cent and 3.5 per cent respectively, the year before.

The Police Recruitment Group joined the Education and Careers Expo 2000 at the HKCEC February 24 to 27, with officers briefing visitors on Police duties, entry qualifications and applications.
