DC & S Louis Lau presents the grand prize to SSP (Adm) HKI Catherine Roper

Hong Kong Island Region scraped to victory in the coveted MacDonald Cup Inter-Regional Basketball Competition on March 31, taking the event by a mere point.

The Islanders beat Marine Region 61-60 in an excitement-filled match at the Police Sports and Recreation Club. The close battle saw the two sides leapfrog each other in the points throughout the game.

It was the third year of heartbreak for the Mariners who lost the final to Police Headquarters last year and to New Territories South Region in 1998. In the struggle for second-runner up, Kowloon West Region comfortably beat New Territories North.

Director of Crime and Security Louis Lau Chun-sing presented the prizes after the matches. The winners of the Luscombe/Leslie Cup Inter-District Formation Basketball Competition, which concluded in December, also received their presentations from Mr Lau. The event went to Tsuen Wan District with Wan Chai and Central Districts second and third.
