Freed minds

Your story 'Brainy bobbies win radio quiz' (Issue 679) does not really do justice to the obvious mental prowess and agility of the victorious team members.

Having known three of them for some time, I have often been struck by their incisive intellect whenever we meet and chat.

During a Cantonese course a couple of years ago, Dave Williams never ceased to amaze me with his linguistic skills. His cunning mastery of the language's tonal complexities astounded classmates and teacher alike.

Jim Walker and Robbie McRobbie are living proof that some of the Force's finest rugby players have the brains as well as the brawn needed to tackle tricky situations as well as a fleet-footed opposition (among those I would also include B.J. Smith, whose literary gems unfortunately seem to no longer grace the columns of the OffBeat Letters page).

Although I have only met Dave Fremaux twice, and have engaged him in discussion about several very interesting subjects, there is no doubt his distinctive eye ware gives him a certain' Einsteinian' quality.

All in all, the opposition really did not have a chance against such a fine bunch of Asia's Finest. And the way in which their victory has been used to promote a healthier lifestyle for all Force members is truly commendable. Well done, lads!
