Praise for Western, Sha Tin and Central

Western District was praised July 4 after six arrests were made in four blackmail cases covering Wah Fu Estate, Tin Wan and Ap Lei Chau. Four were jailed. Southern District Fight Crime Committee and Ap Lei Chau Shipping Association representatives, and victims presented pennants and silver plates to Western District Commander Barry Griffin, Assistant District Commander (Crime) Herman Chan Yee, Chief Inspector (Crime) Cheuk Hau-yip, District Anti-triad Squad Senior Inspector Lee Wing-keung and his officers.

The Western Junior Police Call Activities Committee also presented awards to Mr Griffin, Western Divisional Commander Ho Wai-ming and Task Force Sub-unit Police Constables Yee Chi-keung, Shum Kim-kiu and Lau Chi-keung for thwarting other assorted crimes in March.

Meanwhile, Sha Tin District Commander Ian Peggs, Assistant District Commander Ma Siu-yip, Ma On Shan Divisional Commander Li Tat-wah and ST District Anti-triad Squad received Chinese calligraphy from an extortion victim and the Sha Tin District Council at Sha Tin Police Station on June 30, after two people were arrested for the blackmail.

Also, Central District Anti-triad Squad officers were recently applauded for their prompt action in detecting a robbery case and recovering $2 million in ivory.

A Wellington Street shop was robbed on March 23 last year. DATS officers took swift action capturing the three suspects and recovering the stolen ivory the same day.

At a ceremony in Central Police Station on July 4, shop representatives presented pennants to Central District Commander Mike Francis, Assistant District Commander (Crime) Ng Po-keung with the DATS officers also in attendance.
