Bright ideas awarded

DMS Douglas Lau and other senior officers with Staff Suggestions and Motivation Scheme award winners

Nine officers and two units have won awards for their innovative ideas in the Police Staff Suggestions and Motivation Scheme.

An award presentation ceremony officiated by Director of Management Services Douglas Lau Yuk-kuen was held at the Police Officers' Club on August 4. He said the objective was to gather suggestions which would improve the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of police services.

The Police Staff Suggestions Committee selected the winners, considering factors such as safety improvements, saving of resources and originality.

Some suggestions were very creative and practical, including the provision of anti-slip mats for Police vehicles and riot helmet design improvements.

Gold award recipient, Police Constable Ng Kwok-wai suggested storage of sketches and pictures of traffic accident blackspots onto CD-roms. The Kowloon West Traffic (Accident Investigation) officer said his suggestion could help facilitate crash inquiries as officers would not need to draw sketches of the scene.

Since the scheme's inception in 1994, over 1,600 suggestions have been received.
