Hostage drama resolved

Airport corps: Acting DCP (OPS) Dick Lee with officers of the Airport Security Unit

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Dick Lee Ming-kwai has applauded the work of officers involved in the successful resolution of the recent hostage drama at Chek Lap Kok.

Mr Lee visited Airport District on August 2, inspecting critical operational locations, and meeting and chatting with the formation's staff.

He spoke to officers who handled the July 31 hostage drama, commending their highly-efficient work in the incident.

An airport cleaner was seized by a man holding a pistol-like object who entered the restricted area and dragged her aboard a parked plane.

Beat and Airport Security Unit officers immediately cordoned off the scene and evacuated the area.

Special Duties Unit, the Police Negotiation Cadre and a host of other formations also leapt into action.

Negotiators successfully persuaded the man to surrender unconditionally and the hostage was released.

Deputy Secretary for Security Chang King-yiu also praised the Police response as being quick and effective.
