Applications open for top scholarships

The Police Children's Education and Police Education and Welfare Trusts are inviting Regulars, Auxiliaries and spouses of late officers to apply for bursaries and scholarships for the 2000/2001 academic year.

There are six awards for Secondary Six scholarships of $20,000 each. Officers' children who obtain a minimum of six distinctions in the 2000 Certificate of Education Examination and continue to study Secondary Six in the 2000/2001 academic year, are eligible to apply.

Students obtaining three distinctions or more in the 2000 Advanced Level Examination (two Advanced Supplementary Level subjects equivalent to one Advanced Level Subject) and continue to study full-time for a year-one degree course at a recognised university are eligible to apply for a University Year One scholarship of $50,000.

The number of awards and amount awarded will vary subject to the availability of funding. Non-local equivalent qualifications will also be considered. Applications for bursaries and grants on compassionate grounds are also being accepted.

The deadline for secondary level applications is September 9, while the deadline for others is September 30. Application forms and criteria are obtainable through all Regional Welfare Offices, and Training and Staff Relations Officers, or downloadable from POINT and PEN. For enquiries call the Personnel Services Branch hotline 2804-1111.
