Shuttlecock slam 2000

On-court badminton action!

More than 100 staff competed in the Police Badminton Championships 2000, the finals of which were held September 23 at the Police Officers' Club.

This year's competition saw a lot of excitement and fun with almost every top player in the Force taking part, ensuring each match was hard-fought.

Preliminaries took place September 4, 6 and 11 at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, and again this year to make the championships more competitive, challenging and exciting, entries for Men's Singles were decided by age groups while Men's Doubles entries were restricted by a pre-determined player grading.

The final's excitement saw the Police Tactical Unit's Ma Wai-hing take out the Men's Singles (Open), while Tong Yee-man of Lantau South Division won the Ladies' Singles.

The Men's Doubles went to Western District's Chow Keng-kan and Marine Region's Chan Chiu-nup, while the Ladies' Doubles was won by Tong and Marine's Lai Mei-wah. The Mixed Doubles crown went to Lai and Sha Tin District's Law Kam-ho.

Police Badminton Club Chairman and Vice-Chairman Spencer Foo Tsun-kong and Wong Pak-nin officiated at the event.
