Last chance to apply for AFS scholarships

Apply now for the McDonald's America Field Service (AFS) Intercultural Exchanges Scholarship for Junior Police Officers' children - deadline is November 22.

The non-profit making, volunteer-based programme operates in over 60 countries, allowing students to stay with host families and attend local schools for an academic year.

Applications are open for the 2001-2002 academic year, and the $66,000 scholarship covers round-trip international and local travel, school fees, orientation and medical costs.

Applicants must be 15 to 18 years old on the departure date. Transcripts must prove academic motivation - students with more than two failed subjects during the previous year will not be accepted.

Departing in July, August and September 2001: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium (Flemish), Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. AFS will handle the selection process independently. Students may indicate a preferred country but this is subject to final decision.

Application forms should be sent to Personnel Services Branch Headquarters, 1st Floor, Dominion Centre, 43-59 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, by November 22. For enquiries, call 2804-1111.
