Observant officers graduate

The Rural OP training course graduation photo

Some 38 officers graduated from the Rural Observation Posts Training Course on February 15.

The officers, ranked Police Constable to Inspector, received their certificates from Marine Deputy Regional Commander Ng Chee-kin, at the Marine Region Officers' Mess. They were joined by five Customs and Excise officers who also graduated.

The course, made up of lectures and field training, was to enhance the officers' Observation Post (OP) talents.

They were given know-how in planning OP operations, finding suitable locations for manning an OP, constructing a camouflaged and inconspicuous OP, logging and reporting, and general running of an OP.

The well-experienced pairing of Marine Regional Intelligence Unit Officer-in-Charge Cheng Chi-man and Anti-Smuggling Task Force Senior Inspector (Intelligence) Daniel Lau Kin-wai, conducted lectures on urban OP, while rural OP expertise was offered by Marine North Division Inspector Mak Sau-shan, who received OP training from the British military in 1997.

Meanwhile, an OP refresher course was held recently for another 28 officers.
