Workmen thank HKI Traffic


The HKI Taffic team receive banners of thanks

Road workers presented banners of thanks to Traffic Hong Kong Island on April 12, for the arrest and conviction of a hit-and-run drink driver who seriously injured their colleague.

HKI T Senior Superintendent Noel Howcroft received the accolades on behalf of the formation, from China Road Bridge Consultant Company representatives at the Hong Kong Island Regional Officers' Mess. Highways Department contractors, the company praised officers for their efforts in quickly catching the culprit and in their subsequent investigation.

Doing repair work on the Island Eastern Corridor in June last year, the victim suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car. The driver fled and was intercepted in Siu Sai Wan by an Enforcement and Control Division officer.

An Accident Investigation Division Special Investigation Team took over the case and after a thorough inquiry the driver was charged with drink driving, careless driving and failing to stop after an accident. Convicted of all charges, he was sentenced to three months prison, disqualified from driving for three years and fined $18,000.
