CP gives Rotary speech

Police pledge: CP Tsang Yam-pui speaks at the luncheon

The Force is committed and well prepared to strive for excellence in the services it provides to the public. This was the message Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui gave at a Kowloon West Rotary Club luncheon on May 16, outlining some of its many recent achievements.

He told members that last year's crime rate remained low, and that the overall crime rate and violent crime reports had dropped seven and 10.7 per cent respectively in the first four months of this year, compared with the same period in 2000.

"The detection rate reached 42.5 per cent which was 1.9 per cent higher than last year," he said.

Outlining the importance of frontline officers and their duties, Mr Tsang explained how the Panda Car trial would enlarge and enhance patrols. He also spoke about recent inroads the Force had made in its Information Technology development for staff, and its strength in fighting cyber crime.

Mr Tsang also touched on the Force's stronger ties with the community and its various service quality projects, such as station improvements. Its ties with Mainland and overseas authorities were also stronger than ever, he said.
