Kwong Wah trip to heal the sick

TST DVC Winnie Chiu at Kwong Wah

Woman Police Constable Tong Wing-sum's memories of a lonely Christmas spent in hospital as a child, prompted her and some colleagues to visit sick kids at Kwong Wah Hospital on June 16. She helped organise the Wish You Well unit of the Healthy Lifestyle Project, under Tsim Sha Tsui Division's Work Improvement Team.

Project leader, Senior Inspector Yim Chi-wai and Tsim Sha Tsui Disivional Commander Winnie Chiu Wai-yin headed the troop to visit the Hospital's East and North Wings.

"I remember when I was small, I was hospitalised over the Christmas period. I was lonely and homesick with other children in the ward, and it was especially hard as my parents had to work," WPC Tong said.

"I said to myself that it would be nice if Santa Claus would come and give me present. When I look back now, there were indeed many children who were so sick they had no chance to be home for any festivities and celebrations."

To help spark some smiles, some 40 off-duty Uniform Branch and Crime officers joined in singing songs, telling stories, taking photos and distributing souvenirs to bring joy and laughter to the kids.
