Yuen Long clears back alleys

The Yuen Long anti-crime drive

Yuen Long District has held a series of anti-burglary drives advising the public to safeguard against rear lane crime.

In May, the District joined the Yuen Long Merchant Association and District Fight Crime Committee to urge shop owners to clear debris in rear lanes and install lighting to improve the environment and reduce the chances of burglary.

They also distributed fight-crime leaflets on June 23.

June 27 saw an anti-burglary seminar held in Citimail Plaza.

Speakers advised on security measures before Food and Environmental Hygiene Department staff cleared obstructions and illegal structures from local alleys to prevent them providing cover for burglars.

Despite a red rainstorm warning, more than 100 people attended the briefing by Deputy District Commander Yip Suen and officers from the NTN Regional Crime Prevention Office.

Guests included Yuen Long's DFCC Chairman Cham Ka-hung and District Officer Tang Chi-leung.

The bodies would join the District again later this month to clear rear lane blackspots.
