Commitment list a winner

CS Donald Tsang voices support for commitment list

Organisations traditionally display their motto in a prominent place as a visual reminder of their pledge to quality service. Mong Kok District officers are no exception as demonstrated by the commitment list displayed in the station's Report Room.

The Chinese-language list outlines MK officers' views on the appropriate behaviour an officer should adopt dealing with members of the public, victims, suspects and also colleagues. The innovation was highly praised by the Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang during his visit to MK Police Station on July 26.

Mr Tsang said that he was impressed by the officers' motivation in creating their own commitment list and considered it an indication of the development of the Force into a service-based organisation.

The innovation originated from a series of half-day workshops organised by the District in June last year for officers of the Report Room, Traffic Team and Transport Division, where they shared occupational experiences and difficulties.

MK District Woman Chief Inspector Operations Annie Fonda said: "The attendees came up with lots of ideas and they all agreed that politeness, compassion, patience, care, mutual trust and respect, impartiality, openness and fairness were what colleagues should always bear in mind when they deal with the public, victims, suspects and colleagues."

All points raised by the attendees, together with photos of officers, were then collected for compilation of the commitment list.

"Colleagues' response to the commitment list was so enthusiastic that many of them even requested personal copies," stated WCIP Fonda.

Acting MK District Commander Peter Else said that it was encouraging to see officers developing such a list as it demonstrated a commitment towards service quality and an understanding of the concept of customer care.
