Anti-deception campaign benefits elderly

Deception practices explained to an eldery estate resident

Concern for the vulnerability of elderly residents motivated Shek Kip Mei Uniform Branch Officers to initiate an anti-deception campaign at Tai Hang Tung and Shek Kip Mei public housing estates on July 26.

Sham Shui Po District Crime Prevention officers, together with members of the district's Junior Police Call and the Sham Shui Po East Area Committee, advised elderly estate residents on ways to prevent being cheated by culprits impersonating Social Welfare Department or other voluntary agency staff.

Anti-deception leaflets were distributed and posters were displayed along estate corridors as a constant reminder to the aged to be ever-vigilant.

The campaign was a direct result of two earlier seminars conducted by the district's Crime Prevention Unit and the Police Community Relations Office to increase awareness and knowledge of deceptive practices among elderly residents.
