Youngsters enjoy
Fight Crime Summer Camp

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, accompanied by Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui, visited the Junior Police Call (JPC) Fight Crime Summer Camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village at Ma On Shan on August 9.

This year's camp, held from August 7-10 under the slogan "Join us to fight youth crime" with the underlying theme of "a tripartite alliance of parents, schools and Police to prevent juvenile crime, with emphasis on the problem of youth gangs", was attended by some 1,500 JPC members.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the CS said that he was pleased to see that there was a drop in the overall crime figures in the first half of this year.

Pointing out the importance of keeping youngsters away from crime, he stressed that close co-operation among the Police, parents, schools and other related organisations were essential to the healthy and stable development of youngsters. He also urged the youngsters to make good use of computers and beware of inadvertently breaching the law.

Commissoner Tsang said that great effort had been spent on the fight against juvenile crime and psychotropic drugs and it was encouraging to see a drop of 12 per cent in the number of juvenile offenders arrested in the first half of this year. To help youngsters build up their sense of responsibility and self-confidence, a total of 43 training and counselling programmes were being run by the Police in a number of districts.
