Hong Kong Putonghua Day

How good is your Putonghua?

The Hong Kong Putonghua Association has announced that the first Hong Kong Putonghua Day will be held on September 13, to coincide with National Putonghua Week scheduled for the third week of September, featuring a variety of related activities.

In response to the Official Language Agency's call for support of this designated day, the Training Development Bureau has produced a supply of First Hong Kong Putonghua Day bookmarks for members of the Force.

TDB and the Civil Service Training and Development Institute have also jointly produced the Job-related Putonghua Glossary.

In addition, TDB has organised a Hanyu Pinyin competition. Force members who are able to translate the Hanyu Pinyin phrases, listed on the right, into Chinese using the correct characters will be eligible to enter a lucky draw with prizes donated by the Working Group on Greater Use of Chinese in the Force.

Entrants are requested to submit competition answers including name, rank, post and contact telephone number to TDB by fax on 2553-2461 by September 24.

Officers wishing to obtain copies of the Job-related Putonghua Glossary should also submit a fax with name, rank, post, telephone number and glossary title clearly marked on the cover sheet to TDB by September 24.
