As part of the Force Survey Strategy a regular formal channel for compiling feedback from staff has been established in the form of the Staff Opinion Survey.

The Survey aims to assess staff satisfaction in working for the Force and their opinions on Force performance in respective core functional areas. This year the survey will be conducted from November 6 to 8. Your support is vital to its success.

Some 10 per cent (about 3,500 staff) of the Force (including civilians and auxiliaries) will participate in this survey. Their profiles have been randomly selected, with individuals drawn from within formations.

The findings of last year's survey have been thoroughly considered by Force management, with Major Formation Commanders being consulted on collective Force responses. To date considerable progress has been made and the latest developments have been disseminated via the Communication Brief circulated by PEN on a monthly basis. These are also available on POINT for easy reference.

Major formations at Headquarters and Regional levels have gone to great lengths to identify and introduce improvements to meet both local needs and the expectations of their staff. Resulting from concerns raised in last year's survey, many improvements have been introduced.

Support Wing and Crime Wing conducted a joint study on improving crime officers' equipment, including provision of new exhibit bags, inner cordon tape and more. Training Wing produced computer-based learning packages to enhance self-learning opportunities and incorporated communication skills into various training syllabuses. The Staff Relations Report has been uploaded to POINT for better communications.

Based on previous experience, this year's questionnaire has been streamlined, with the number of questions reduced to about 110 (originally 190+). Results, and Force responses, will be announced by early 2002.
