NP officers study Fujian dialect |
||
Ten elite Fujian Minnan dialect-speaking officers were selected from sub-units to attend an Advanced Fujian Minnan Dialect Course held at North Point Police Station on October 10.
North Point Division is a densely populated area and has long been known as 'Little Fujian' as there are many Fujianese residents living there. The majority of of them speak the Fujian Minnan dialect and have difficulty in communicating with other local residents as they have different customs. The objective of the course was to inform attending officers on practical methods for passing what they have learned to frontline officers to help them carry out routine duties more effectively and efficiently. Member of Eastern District Fight Crime Committee and Chairman of North Point West Area Committee Choy Sai-chuen attended to instruct officers in the Minnan dialect. Earlier in August and September, North Point Divisional Commander Wong Mui-kit invited Mr Kiang Yuk-dui, a leader of the Fujianese community in North Point and Chairman of Hong Kong Youth Association to address training day attendees on the customs and way of life of Fujianese residents and how to better communicate with them in order to strengthen the Force's understanding of them. |
