A letter was sent to a Chinese-language newspaper refuting a report on September 25 which claimed that a Chief Inspector attached to Western Division had abused his authority in assigning his subordinates to discuss his loan interest rate with a financial company. It was pointed out in the letter that the report was totally unfounded. The report was not only unfair to the officer, but also embarrassed him.
A letter was sent to a Chinese-language newspaper to clarify its story on October 6 about a man and his girlfriend attempting to commit suicide by taking pills in Sha Tin. The report quoted the man as stating that he was a Police officer. The letter sent to the newspaper pointed out that, according to Police records, the man was neither a serving Police officer, Auxiliary Police officer nor civilian staff.
Swift Police action quickly restored order outside a disco on Chung On Street, Tsuen Wan, following a reported fight inside the disco in the early morning of October 6. The remarks were made by a Police spokesman in a press release in response to newspaper stories on October 7 which alleged that the crowd dispersed after several people were slapped on the face and ordered to leave by some triad leaders. "No such incident happened and the allegations of lawlessness in newspaper stories were totally unfounded," the spokesman said.

It was pointed out in the letter that there was no evidence so far to indicate that Hong Kong was a place where terrorists laundered their funds. It was very irresponsible for the paper to publish a story based on unconfirmed information, the letter stressed.
A letter was sent to a Chinese-language newspaper refuting a story published on October 16 which alleged that a suspect was framed by Kowloon East Regional Special Duty Squad (RSDS/KE) officers and that he was given a suspected heroin granule by RSDS/KE officers in exchange for information on drug traffickers. It was pointed out in the letter that the case is being investigated by Complaints Against Police Office. The allegation in the article that RSDS/KE would be disbanded shortly to facilitate a reorganisation was totally unfounded, the letter stressed.
A press release was issued and a letter was sent to a Chinese-language newspaper on October 16 refuting a report that a Police Constable who became emotional and was subsequently taken to hospital after a disciplinary review on October 15 had pointed his service revolver at his colleagues. It was noted that the officer was interviewed by his supervisor on October 15 for a disciplinary offence which occurred in late August. The offence had nothing to do with the use of his service revolver, also, the officer was not chained while on his way to hospital.
