Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui expressed his appreciation of all officers who had handled a recent Tsuen Wan armed robbery in a PEN message issued on December 11.

Four men armed with two revolvers robbed a cash escort vehicle and snatched $1 million in cash in Castle Peak Road on December 10. A security guard and three Police officers were injured in the incident.

Mr Tsang said that the incident once again highlighted the need for all officers to remain vigilant on duty. He was very pleased to note that the vigilance, professionalism and commitment of all officers involved in the operation had led to the arrest of four suspects, the seizure of a number of weapons and the recovery of the stolen property.

"This was an excellent coordinated effort by all Police officers concerned. I also appreciate the bravery of the injured security guard and the members of the public who cooperated with our officers in this incident," Mr Tsang stated.

Mr Tsang personally praised officers of an ad hoc Mong Kok District task force, the Kowloon West Emergency Unit, New Territories South Regional Crime Headquarters and Organised Crime and Triad Bureau in a visit on December 12.

Deputy Commissioner Operations Lau Yuk-kuen and Director of Operations Ng Wai-kit also showed their support for frontline officers by meeting some of the officers who had arrested the suspects at Mong Kok Police Station on December 10. He also thanked a citizen at the police station for providing information to the Police in the incident.

Accompanied by NTS Deputy Regional Commander Tang Kam-moon, Mr Tsang visited the injured Police Constables Yuen Man-tai, Yip Kin-kei and Chau Hon-lung at Yan Chai Hospital on December 11. He also visited the security guard at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) on that day and wished him a speedy recovery.

Speaking to the press at QEH, Mr Tsang noted that the Police would soon liaise with Guangdong public security authorities to see if the exchange of intelligence could be further strengthened.

He added that the Police would review the present frontline deployment to see if more uniformed and plainclothes officers could be deployed for frontline duties during the winter precaution period.

Meanwhile, a member of the public sent an e-mail to the Chief Executive's Office praising the performance of the officers in the incident.
