'YES' in Wan Chai |

The Wan Chai Police District
jointly organised the Youth Enhancement Scheme (YES) with the Wan Chai
Outreaching Social Work Team of the Hong Kong Playground Association
between May and November. The aim of the scheme is to guide young people
onto the right track.
About 50 youths took part in a series of activities including visiting Police formations, serving the community and joining an adventure course and a confidence enhancement training camp. The activities were designed to instil confidence, discipline and team spirit in them. It was also hoped that the activities would improve the young people's interpersonal skills and enhance their understanding of the work of the Police. Sixteen Wan Chai officers of different ranks also volunteered to be YES Leaders to provide guidance to the youths in taking part in the activities. Scheme coordinator, Wan Chai District Police Community Relations Officer Tse Kwok-wai said that it was gratifying to see a positive change in the attitude and behaviour of most of the participants. He added that the scheme also left them a good impression of the Police. "For the YES Leaders, the scheme provides them with an opportunity to better understand the new generation," CIP Tse said. He attributed the success of the scheme to the cooperation among various Government departments and community organisations. "We will review the scheme and hope that it will become a major annual anti-juvenile crime activity in the district," CIP Tse said. |
