(This article is written by former CPC member Joe Leung Wai-man, who is now undergoing training as a Probationary Inspector).
I happened to read about the CPC on POINT three years ago and came to realise the importance of the CPC to the Force. I then telephoned the CPC Secretary and expressed my wish to join the Committee in the hope that I could somewhat contribute to minimising complaints against the Police. I was appointed a member of the CPC soon afterwards.
The objectives of establishing the CPC are to maintain a closer liaison with frontline officers to find out the causes of complaints arising from the contacts between the members of the public and the officers in their day-to-day work and to formulate policies with a view to minimising complaints.
Over the past three years, I worked together with more than 20 frontline representatives from various formations to discuss ways to minimise complaints. We worked like a big family and expressed our views in full in a relaxing atmosphere. We also collected views from other frontline officers, designed posters and published the CPC Bulletin.
I am attending a 36-week Probationary Inspector training course and regrettably can no longer take part in the CPC activities during this period. I have, however, learned much about the Force via the CPC, which is beneficial to my career and myself. I hope that I will have another opportunity to work for the CPC again soon.
