A prize presentation was held on January 2 at the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters for the winners of a poster design competition to enhance awareness in occupational safety and health concepts among PTU staff and trainees.

The competition, organised by the PTU HQ, was launched last December and attracted 34 entries from all the PTU HQ units and Companies under training.

Chief Superintendent Ng Man-kim, who presented prizes to the winners, said the competition was extremely successful due to the high number of entries received.

"All the participants exhibited impressive effort in terms of creativity and the message conveyed," CSP Ng said.

The winners are Visual Aids, PTU HQ (Champion); General Registry, PTU HQ and the Alpha Company, No 3 Platoon (First runners-up); Alpha Company, No 2 Platoon (Second runner-up); Bravo Company, No 1 Platoon (Third runner-up) as well as Training Team Two, PTU HQ and Range and Weapon Training, PTU HQ (Fourth runners-up).

A PTU HQ safety and health committee, chaired by Superintendent Training PTU Lam Man-sai, meets quarterly to discuss various issues concerning safety measures and relevant training needs to minimise work related injuries.

SP Lam said a review of all aspects of training had been completed resulting in the identification of a number of risk areas. These have been divided into 16 modules and will be applied in police training procedures.

In addition, she added, the causes of common injuries had been placed in notice boards to remind trainees to take precautions against injuries.
