An ideal police officer

(This is an essay by Police Constable Alan Ngai of Kwai Tsing District)

Nowadays, the Police Force is accountable to the public in every aspect. Anything relating to the disciplined forces has become the focus of public attention, in particular, cases handled by the Police - even minor ones.

In view of this, we must handle each and every incident with extreme care and in a professional manner. To avoid unnecessary conflict and minimise complaints, we must act on the performance pledge of the Force, devote ourselves to our work so as to gain the trust of the community.

As a guardian of the law, we should be fully conversant with the laws relating to the Police Force and the procedures in dealing with various types of cases. We should put ourselves in others' shoes and be impartial in dealing with the public.

We should share our knowledge and experience with our colleagues and help those who have just joined the Force. In doing so, we will win the support, trust and praise of the public. Therefore, we should always seek to improve ourselves to become a professional member of the contemporary Police Force.

Besides, we must not indulge in gambling and other bad habits as they would affect our work and may even ruin our career of which we are very proud.
