The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph W P Wong, during his visit to the Force on April 18, held a short meeting with the Acting Commissioner, Mr Lau Yuk-kuen, the Director of Finance, Administration and Planning, Mr Lai Kwok-ying, and Senior Force Management.

Earlier, Mr Wong, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Management, Mr Lee Ming-kwai, and Hong Kong Island Regional Commander, Mr Yuen Ying-lam, looked at the work of Emergency Unit of Hong Kong Island. Following a briefing by the Unit's Superintendent, Mr Peter Cornthwaite, Mr Wong then met with a wide cross-section of officers attached to the Unit. Both sides discussed a number of issues, including conditions of service and the progress of the Central Police Station complex.

Before winding up his visit, Mr Wong had the opportunity to exchange views with representatives from the Police Force Council and Civilian Staff Association.

Appreciative of the opportunity to meet with front-line officers and see their working conditions at first-hand, Mr Wong also valued his subsequent discussions with Senior Force Management, as well as talks with Police Force Council and Staff Association personnel.
