Steel box for visiting books

Some 120 stainless steel boxes to house visiting books are now in use in Tsim Sha Tsui Division, to replace all existing wooden visiting book boxes.

The idea of modification of the existing boxes came from Senior Inspector Yim Chi-wai. On one occasion, he spotted a wooden visiting books box in a poor and helpless state dangling outside a goldsmith shop. He thought that something could be done, and his view was shared by his colleague, SIP Wong Shek-kee.

They later designed a stainless steel box, which is weather proof, durable and informative. Their creative efforts were further inspired when the design was accepted by their Divisional Commander, Ms Chiu Wai-yin, and approved to be put in use by Assistant Commissioner Support, Mr Steve Chandler.

Police Stores has produced one for reference purpose. Officers from other Districts or Divisions wishing to equip the new boxes could contact Police Stores direct.
