A road safety publicity drive was launched by the Western Police District and the Southern District Road Safety Campaign Committee in Southern District in April.

A bus parade and a carnival were held on April 6 and 14 respectively as part of the 2001/2002 Southern District Road Safety Campaign which carried the theme of "smart drivers, smart pedestrians".

During the bus parade, two buses carrying officiating guests, including Southern District Council Chairman, Mr Joseph Chan, and Southern District Road Safety Campaign Committee Chairman, Mr Wong Man-kit, travelled to major housing estates in the district to distribute road safety leaflets and souvenirs to the residents.

Meanwhile, children received and helped to promote the road safety message by participating in the carnival which featured stall games, an exhibition, a "mini car ride" and a road safety bicycle town for children, a road safety children fashion show as well as performances by the Auxiliary Police Band, magicians, clowns and artistes.

Officiating guests at the carnival included Western District Commander, Mr David Madoc-Jones, and community dignities.
