Police volunteers together with Junior Police Call members made a clean sweep of an eyesore in Pokfulam late last month.

Discarding their uniforms, 20 officers from Western District's youth community service group, 15 officers from PTU Z Company and 30 JPC members pitched in to clean up Waterfall Bay, once renowned for its scenic and idyllic landscape on the western shores of Hong Kong Island.

The officers group, together with volunteers from the private sector, spent more than two hours picking up litter, soft drink containers and debris in a bid to help restore its once famed environment.

The district's PCRO, Ms Lo Wai-ming, told OffBeat the Force received a request from Civic Exchange to participate in their "Adopt a Beach" campaign, aimed at removing junk from Hong Kong's scenic locations, particularly the beaches.

"The clean-up in Waterfall Bay on June 22 was the organisation's first target, and since the area is within our district, we agreed to pitch in," Ms Lo said.

"Those who take part in this and other community activities do so in their own time. It is part of the Force's motto of serving the community with pride and care.

"I am sure that our colleagues in other formations would respond positively if asked to participate in similar activities in other parts of the territory," she added.
