Come rain or shine, he is either in the pool or on the track for at least one hour every day, undergoing rigorous training in preparation for a mission he has vowed to complete successfully.

Meet Mr Peter Turner, a Force IT specialist, who at 55, is pushing himself literally to the limit so that he will be fit enough to participate in a marathon later in the year and help raise money for research into a diseases known as Multiple Sclerosis.

He is doing this for his 29-year-old daughter Elizabeth who is suffering from this as yet incurable disease. She has joined the Multiple Sclerosis Society in the UK which, apart from providing support to sufferers, is also funding research into the disease.

Mr Turner, Elizabeth and his son Philip will be taking part in the 26-mile marathon in New York on November 3.

He needs sponsors and has requested OffBeat to help convey an appeal to Force members for contributions towards this worthy cause.

"While this appears to be supporting sufferers in the UK, the research is of benefit to the whole international community," he said, adding: "Donations to the Society can specify the use to which the donations are applied."

Mr Turner, who has worked for the Force for seven years, is a project manager at ITB and can be contacted at 2860-3492.

His e-mail address is pturner@police.gov.hk
