A road safety bus livery design competition, launched last month by Traffic Branch Headquarters, attracted more than 2,300 entries from primary and secondary school students.

The total comprised 1,605 entries from primary school pupils for the Junior Group and 749 secondary school students' entries for the Senior Group.

A spokesman for the traffic headquarters said the entries were of exceptionally high standard in terms of both creativity and originality.

"We didn't expect this overwhelming and enthusiastic response from the students," he added.

Judging of the entries had been completed and trafffic headquarters will be informing the champion, first runner-up and the second runner-up through their respective schools. Ten meritorious awards for both the Junior and Senior Groups will also be given.

The five-member panel of judges comprised a well-known local artist, Mr Chui Tze-hung, a creative director of an advertising agency, Mr David Wong, the managing director of a media company, Mr K.C. Chan, CSP Traffic, Mr Ling Sin-ching, and CIP Road Safety Unit, Mrs Betty Lam.

The winning design will be used as the livery for traffic headquarters new road safety bus.

"The bus will not only serve as a mobile exhibition centre for disseminating road safety messages but also an educational tool to enhance road safety amongst the general public," the spokesman added.
