Some 150 youngsters last month participated in a 'Help People to Help Themselves' Fight Crime Ambassadors Training Day organised by Police Community Relations Office of Sau Mau Ping Police District.

The half-day course was held at Lok Wah Estate Community Centre. Officiating guests included Kwun Tong District Officer, Mr Lam Kai-chung; Kwun Tong District Fight Crime Committee Chairman, Mr Fung Kam-chiu, and SMP District Commander, Mr Au Yiu-kwan.

After completing the course, each participant was presented with a certificate and officially appointed as Sau Mau Ping District 'Fight Crime Ambassadors' of 2002 so as to start his/her ambassadorial role immediately by distributing fight-crime messages to the public within the district.

The 'Help People to Help Themselves' Fight Crime Campaign, which lasts for six months, was launched last month. The campaign is aimed at arousing awareness of shoplifting, street fraud and domestic security.

This year, Sau Mau Ping Police District has also invited members of many youth groups and young community leaders to participate in the activities of the fight crime publicity campaign and help recruit fight crime ambassadors.

The district also has plans to organise a series of fight crime publicity activities, including visits, seminars, lectures, community services and distribution of anti-crime leaflets.

By participating in these activities, young people could make use of their spare time in promoting fight crime messages and increasing residents' awareness of anti-crime measures.
