Hot work for a model policewoman

"To me, modelling is a very sweaty job and it can drain all your energy away in just a few hours!"

So said Woman Police Constable Jo Chong Chi-ning when recounting her experience of modelling for this year's new Police recruitment posters. The Police Public Relations Branch officer explained that for last year's recruitment campaign she had been one of the characters in an award-winning TV commercial.

"This year, for reasons of continuity, they wanted someone who had been in last year's commercials to model for the new posters - and I was given the chance," Jo explained.

In the new posters, Jo is portrayed as a caring traffic policewoman rescuing a panic-stricken kid from a car. The photo was taken at the Police Training School during the heat of July but, to provide a link with the previous commercials in which she featured, Jo had to don the thick winter uniform and carry a 20kg little boy in her arms.

"Maintaining the same pose for nearly two hours in the sun was really exhausting and, to make matters worse, at one stage the little boy became very emotional and burst into tears when he temporarily lost sight of his mummy. But, by capturing that moment on film, the poster has actually had a bigger impact."

Jo told OffBeat that the new poster had become a major feature in her home. "My dad has mounted the poster on the door of our living room. Well, you see, my family have always been my number one supporters."

After seven years in the Force, Jo said that the experience of modelling for Police recruitment publicity campaign had been an added bonus to her meaningful career.

"I was once in a dilemma as to whether to join the Force or to become a registered nurse. During seven years with the Force, my many rewarding experiences, including the modelling, have proved to me that I made the right decision."

"I'm proud of being a member of the Hong Kong Police Force and I'm especially thrilled to see its recent achievements, particularly the great improvement in internal communications between staff and the management," Jo enthused.
