A multi-agency Fight Crime Workshop designed to encourage youngsters to resist becoming involved in triad activities and drug-taking, sponsored by Yuen Long District Office, Yuen Long District Council and Yuen Long Fight Crime Committee, was jointly organised by the District Community Relations Office, the Social Welfare Department, Yuen Long Town Hall, Yuen Long Town Hall Long Ping Children & Youth Centre, the Friends of Scouting Long Ping Children & Youth Centre, the Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service and Tin Shui Wai Children & Youth Integrated Team.

The workshop was held each Sunday in August at the Lau Fau Shan Police Station and 100 youths, handpicked by their school disciplinary masters, were drawn from all 43 secondary schools in the district.

Activities included seminars, experience sharing and role-playing. Participants were introduced during case discussions to the 'Brain Storming Approach', which taught them how to say 'No' to drugs and how to come up with the best way to deal with triad harassment. In addition, they were taught how to assist police in beating triads and drugs and, through teamwork, how to acquire an appropriate esprite de corps in a mutually helpful fight against crime.

In the closing ceremony, District Deputy Commander, Mr Yip Suen, and District Fight Crime Committee Chairman, Mr Cham Ka-hung, urged them to say a firm 'No' to drugs and triads and persuade fellow students and friends to do the same.
