Playing happy families at Tai Po Kau

Some 130 Marine Region officers and their families went to Tai Po Kau Interactive Nature Centre for a Family Life Education Progamme -'happy families day camp' that gave them a deeper understanding of the essence of a happy family life through an interactive programme in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It was jointly organised by Marine Region and Welfare Services Group.

During the morning, while the adults were attending a workshop on parenthood conducted by Ms Jody Lee Shuk-fai of the Hong Kong Children & Youth Services, their children enjoyed a number of outdoor games and attended handicraft classes organised by the Centre staff.

After a most enjoyable buffet lunch, they visited the Centre's Museum of Ethnology and took part in a few more educational games.

Senior Police Constable Kwan Kwok-fai and his wife were most impressed with the workshop on parenthood.

Mrs Kwan noted: "We found the workshop very interesting and practical. The speaker told us how to spend 'quality time' with our kids and showed us different ways to develop an intimate and healthy relationship with them. We also had the opportunity to express our personal feelings at the group discussion session."

"The tour to the Museum of Ethnology was also very inspiring," said Mr Kwan. "My son and daughter were fascinated by the exhibits which showed the way of life for people in different cultures around the world and how human beings can adapt to the harsh and unforgiving environment imposed by nature.

"I really liked the event because the atmosphere was so relaxing we could fully enjoy ourselves," Mr Kwan added.
