ECACCS gets a new look

The workhorse of the Force, ECACCS, which first went live in 1989, is about to be installed on CTA machines in Report Rooms in a more modern and user-friendly form. It has been given a new graphical front-end (Graphical User Interface or GUI), bringing it more in line with other Force systems such as CIS.

The User Acceptance Tests were completed in the middle of August and by the end of September the new look ECACCS went live, successfully, at two pilot sites: Wan Chai Report Room and Waterfront Report Room. The full implementation to Report Rooms Forcewide will start in the middle of October beginning with Hong Kong Island, followed by Marine, Kowloon East, Kowloon West, New Territories South and finishing, by the end of November, with New Territories North Region.

The Graphical User Interface version of ECACCS is only targeted at Report Rooms and is aimed to reduce the length of training by incorporating a similar look and feel to the CIS and also by providing a comprehensive help facility. There are no new functions added at this stage, only the 'look and feel' has been changed.

Briefing sessions will initially be held at Police Headquarters, with training after the completion of the rollout being taken up by ITTC during the Basic ECACCS and Report Room Training courses.

This release is seen as an excellent opportunity to familiarise users with the user-friendliness of Graphical User Interfaces in advance of the rollout of CC III commencing in 2004.

Following on from the initial release of the new front end, there will be a further release which will provide users with the option of either an English or Chinese working environment and a Help provided in either language. The second release will also include functions to support fallback planning.

For those wishing to get a sneak preview of the look and feel of the new Report Room ECACCS screens, the help system is provided on POINT at "ECACCS gets a new look".
